Dusk view along a brick-paved sidewalk lined with stacked black café chairs, tables and closed white patio umbrellas under a timber-framed awning; above it rises a two-storey red-brick building with a white Victorian-style upper gallery, glowing iron lamp posts and an American flag. Across the street a low row of brick storefronts is strung with holiday lights and red bows, a black sedan turns at the corner, and a street sign on the right reads "Webb St" / "Canton St" with a "Webb St Shops" arrow. Bare winter trees, pale pink sky.

Canton Street runs north from the Historic District toward Woodstock Road. It is lined with restaurants, and it holds Heart of Roswell Park and the stretch the City closes for its Alive in Roswell street festival. Visit Roswell says the street is designated a Georgia “Great Street.” It does not say who made that designation or when, and we could not find out, so we pass it on as Visit Roswell’s description.

Heart of Roswell Park

Heart of Roswell Park is the small green at 925 Canton Street, at the corner of Canton Street and Alpharetta Street. Visit Roswell lists it as open dawn to dusk. On Alive in Roswell nights the City puts a DJ here, and on Friday, Dec. 4, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m., the City lights its 40-foot Christmas tree here. The tree lighting is on our holiday season page.

Parking: the paid trial zone and the free deck

The City runs a downtown parking pilot through Dec. 31, 2026. Paid on-street parking covers Canton Street between Magnolia and Norcross Streets, Elizabeth Way between Canton Street and Alpharetta Highway, East Alley between Canton and Norcross Streets, and the East Alley lot. Since Aug. 1, 2026, a session that starts between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. gets its first two hours free. After that, or for a session that starts outside that window, the rate is $3 an hour up to $24 a day.

The City’s rules page adds the parts people miss:

  • You must start a session even during the free hours. Unpaid parking carries a $20 fine.
  • Enforcement runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the longest stay is 24 hours.
  • Pay by scanning the QR code or texting the number on the sign (no app needed), or at the kiosks at Canton Street and Elizabeth Way and along East Alley.
  • Two 30-minute free spaces on Elizabeth Way need no session, for quick stops.

For a longer meal, use the City’s downtown deck at 1056 Alpharetta Street, entered from Kevin Cash Memorial Drive. It opened May 4, 2026 and is free while Green Street is closed for construction. The City gives 394 spaces in its May, June and July posts; its March post and the Fox 5 and WSB-TV reports say 395. Free street parking is on Hill Street, Forrest Street, Mimosa Boulevard and Park Square Court. Every lot, with its owner and rate status, is on our parking page.
